What happens at your assessment
This page tells you exactly what will happen, in order, with no surprises. If anything here does not suit you, tell us and we will change it.
The short version
How long
Two to three hours in total, usually in one appointment.
Who is there
One psychologist. You can bring one person with you.
Where
Our rooms in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, or online by video if you prefer.
Breaks
You can stop for a break at any point. Just say so, or point.
Every step, in order
1. You tell us you are interested
Four short boxes: your name, email, phone and who the assessment is for. Nothing else is needed at this point.
2. Ten short questions, if you want to
This is the AQ-10 screening questionnaire. One question per screen. You can skip it and ask us to call you instead.
3. We contact you
By email if you prefer email, or by phone if you prefer phone. We tell you the price and the next date available.
4. You choose an appointment
You pick a date and time yourself in your own online diary. You can change it later.
5. The appointment
We talk about your life, school or work, and how you experience the world. There are no trick questions and nothing you can fail.
6. Your report
A written report within four weeks, explained to you in a follow up call. It says whether the criteria are met, and what support may help.
What the room is like

- The room has soft lamp lighting. The overhead light can be switched off.
- There is no strong smell, no music and no clock ticking.
- Two comfortable chairs, set at an angle, so you do not have to face anyone directly.
- Water is available. You can bring your own drink, food, headphones or anything that helps.
- You do not have to make eye contact. You do not have to shake hands.
- There is a quiet waiting area, and step free access from the car park.
If phoning is hard
You never have to ring us. You can email, use the form, or start your journey online and tell us in the form that you would rather not be phoned. We will do it your way.
